Epidemiology + Tumor Documentation

Systematic cancer documentation and epidemiological data analysis for research and quality assurance

Epidemiology and tumor documentation are essential components of cancer research and quality assurance at UCCSH. All cancer cases within the center are systematically recorded by a specialized documentation team using standardized oncological documentation systems. These data provide the basis for continuous evaluation of the quality of cancer care and support the certification processes of the organ-specific cancer centers.

A close collaboration exists with the Cancer Registry of Schleswig-Holstein, to which all data are reported according to nationwide standards. Within the registry, these data are combined with additional information on follow-up and disease progression, enabling comprehensive longitudinal analyses. Regular feedback from the registry supports both clinical evaluation and quality improvement at UCCSH. As highlighted in the interactive cancer report, nearly 21,000 people are newly diagnosed in 2024 with cancer in Schleswig-Holstein, many of whom are treated at UCCSH.

The systematically collected data from UCCSH and the cancer registry also form an important foundation for epidemiological and clinical research. By analyzing incidence, disease progression, treatment patterns, and patient outcomes, these data contribute to a better understanding of cancer in the population and support the development of evidence-based strategies for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.
