Providing advanced imaging technologies for in vivo and multimodal analysis
Imaging technologies are essential for visualizing biological processes in living systems and for studying disease progression in real time. At UCCSH, advanced imaging platforms enable multimodal and high-resolution analysis in preclinical and translational research settings.
These platforms support a wide range of applications, including structural and functional imaging, and contribute to the development and validation of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
MOIN-CC (Molecular Imaging North Competence Center)
The Molecular Imaging North Competence Center (MOIN CC) is a central facility for preclinical imaging, providing access to advanced multimodal imaging technologies for biomedical and translational research. It supports researchers with state-of-the-art methods such as MRI, CT, ultrasound, and optical imaging to investigate disease mechanisms and develop innovative diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.

MACSima Imaging Platform
The MACSima platform enables highly multiplexed immunofluorescence imaging, allowing the spatial analysis of multiple cell types within a single tissue section. It provides detailed insights into the tumor microenvironment and cellular interactions in cancer and inflammatory diseases.
Key Information
Technology: Fully automated multiplex immunofluorescence imaging
Capabilities: Simultaneous detection of up to ~60 markers on a single tissue section
Application: Spatial analysis of tumor microenvironment and immune cell interactions
Focus: Cancer research and inflammatory diseases
Scientific Lead
Head: Prof. Dr. Wolfram Klapper (wklapper@path.uni-kiel.de)
Additional Information
First system of this kind established at the Kiel site
Integration into the virtual microscopy platform of the medical faculty
Enables analysis of spatial cell organization previously not accessible with conventional methods
